Actress Rachel Zegler is once again addressing the backlash over her past comments about Disney’s Snow White, now claiming that the criticism stems from fans’ deep “passion” for the original 1937 film. In a recent interview with Vogue Mexico, Zegler attempted to smooth over tensions as the live-action remake nears its release.
“I interpret people’s sentiments towards this film as passion,” Zegler said. “What an honor to be a part of something that people feel so passionately about. We’re not always going to agree with everyone who surrounds us and all we can do is our best.”
Zegler initially sparked controversy after dismissing the original Snow White as “dated” and criticizing Prince Florian, claiming he “literally stalks” Snow White. Her remarks led to widespread backlash, with many Disney fans accusing her of disrespecting the classic film.
Shortly after being cast, Zegler acknowledged that her selection as Snow White was controversial, stating, “You don’t normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent.” She framed her role as groundbreaking, saying, “At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I’m really excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess.”
Beyond the Snow White controversy, Zegler has repeatedly positioned herself as a victim of online criticism. She previously claimed that negative reactions to her comments were rooted in sexism, alleging that people deliberately misinterpreted her words to attack a woman in Hollywood.
Despite portraying herself as a target, Zegler has not hesitated to express hostility toward others. Following the 2024 election, she stated that she hopes the 77.3 million Americans who voted for President Donald Trump “never know peace” in their lives.
