Poll Reveals Nearly 80% of Chicago Voters Disapprove of Mayor Brandon Johnson

A new poll conducted by M3 Strategies shows that nearly 80% of likely Chicago voters disapprove of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s job performance.

The survey, conducted between February 20 and 21 among nearly 700 likely voters, found that 79.9% of respondents disapprove of Johnson’s record, while only 6.6% approve. This gives him a net favorability rating of -73.3%.

About 12% of respondents had a neutral opinion of the mayor. The findings align with previous polling that has reflected growing frustration over crime, city finances, and leadership issues within Chicago Public Schools.

When asked about the most pressing issues facing the city, 67% of respondents identified crime as their top concern. High taxes ranked second, with 54% citing it as a major issue, followed by inflation and the rising cost of goods and services at 41%. Other concerns included immigration control at 24%, increased funding for Chicago Public Schools at 20%, and racism at 11%.

The poll also gathered insights into the political preferences of respondents. About 71% said they voted for Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, while 18% supported Republican Donald Trump.

A little over 40% identified as moderate in their political ideology, while 43% identified as liberal and just over 17% as conservative. In terms of racial demographics, 27% of respondents identified as African American, nearly 19% as Hispanic or Latino, 5.5% as Asian American, and 43% as White.

Brandon Johnson, who took office in May 2023, has faced mounting criticism over his handling of rising violent crime, budgetary challenges, and conflicts with city aldermen. With crime ranking as the city’s most urgent concern, the poll results suggest widespread voter dissatisfaction that could shape Chicago’s political future.
