Day 79: How Many Border Czars *Aren’t* There Now?

On Day 79, Biden’s border czar resigned—proud of the “clearly right” direction things are going.

Biden Border Czar Resigns.

No, not Vice President Kamala Harris, sadly.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced Friday that Ambassador Roberta Jacobson, Biden’s southern border coordinator, will step down at the end of the month “consistent with her commitment to serve in the administration’s first 100 days.”

Jacobson said in a brief interview that the Biden White House continues “to drive toward the architecture that the president has laid out: an immigration system that is humane, orderly and safe… I leave optimistically. The policy direction is so clearly right for our country.”

It may be less “clearly right” to others than it is to Jacobson. Jacobson briefed Reuters on Friday that the administration is considering a scheme to send conditional cash transfers (CCT) to Central Americans to discourage migration to the United States, a surprising development in light of the reduced stimulus checks distributed to U.S. citizens.

“We’re looking at all of the productive options to address both the economic reasons people may be migrating, as well as the protection and security reasons . . . The one thing I can promise you is the U.S. government isn’t going to be handing out money or checks to people,” Jacobson said—but did not explain how a CCT program, which entails conditioning monetary payments on meeting certain behavioral criteria, would differ from that.

White House Establishes “Presidential Commission On The Supreme Court.”

Biden has established by executive order a working group “to provide an analysis of the principal arguments in the contemporary public debate for and against Supreme Court reform.”

The commission is co-chaired by Bob Bauer, former White House counsel under President Barack Obama and husband of Anita Dunn, and Cristina Rodriguez, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice, also under Obama.

“Its composition … seems to confirm the worst expectations,” law professor Jonathan Turley writes in The Hill. “Indeed, it is a lesson in how to pack a body. The group is technically bipartisan but is far from balanced. Only a handful of the 36 members are considered center right academics, which is actually a strong showing on many of the represented schools, which have few if any conservative or libertarian faculty. Liberals make up the vast majority on the commission, and some have been outspoken critics of Republicans and the conservative Supreme Court majority.”

Biden Releases $1.5 Trillion Budget Proposal.

President Joe Biden submitted his 2022 funding priorities to Congress Friday, totaling a budget of $1.5 trillion annual discretionary spending and a $118 billion increase from current levels.

Among them are two major “healthcare” initiative that contain a host of other investments.

  • A $6.5 billion appropriation for advancements in treating and preventing Alzheimer’s, cancer, and diabetes
  • A 50 percent funding increase to “combat the opioid epidemic,” which also includes the single-largest funding increase ever for Title I schools, doubles the funding for services for rape victims, and “makes major investments in the fight against climate change.”

The budget proposal is separate from Biden’s infrastructure package, and accounts for only the discretionary side of the ledger, not mandatory spending on government programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

‘I Was Treated Like an Experiment’: Former Trans Child Taken Advantage of When She ‘Needed Help’

As the progressive left continues to support the gender transitioning of children under the age of consent, more and more victims of childhood transitioning continue to come forward.

These victims — an increasing number of former transgender children, adolescents and teenagers — are coming forward in an attempt to spread awareness about the long-term consequences that come with hormone therapy, puberty blockers and other forms of “gender-affirming care.”

At the forefront of this movement is British activist Keira Bell.

Last year, Bell was a claimant in a judicial review case against the National Health Service’s Tavistock clinic in Britain.

The case claimed that, by immediately giving gender dysphoric youth gender-affirming care (gender transitioning treatments) rather than careful, individualized treatments, Tavistock had been essentially conducting experiments on gender dysphoric children — experiments that precipitated numerous negative, life-changing consequences.

Bell and the other claimants won in a unanimous verdict delivered by three judges which led Tavistock to immediately suspend referrals of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone therapies for patients under the age of 16, as reported by BBC.

On April 7, in an article published in Persuasion, Bell detailed her experiences dealing with gender dysphoria, the transitioning process and the fallout when she decided to detransition.

Congressional Democrats Turn on Biden Over Refugee Policy

Congressional Democrats are turning on President Joe Biden after it was reported Friday he will keep in place a Trump administration cap on the number of refugees admitted to the country in the coming fiscal year.

ABC News reported Biden has reneged on a proposal in which he pledged to dramatically increase the number of refugees accepted by the country to 62,500 in the months ahead. Biden will instead stick with the cap set by former President Donald Trump, which allows 15,000 international refugees to resettle in the U.S. in the current fiscal year.

ABC noted Biden is “on track to oversee possibly the lowest number of refugee admissions in the program’s near 45-year history, despite his promises to reignite ‘the United States’ moral leadership on refugee issues.’”

The move to backtrack on resettling so many people amid an international pandemic and a border crisis immediately drew swift condemnation from congressional Democrats.

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, sharing a report from The New York Times, attacked Biden in a Friday tweet.

China Pitches Europe ‘Trustworthy’ Vaccines It Admitted Don’t Work Well

Europe should consider Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines as a “trustworthy alternative” to other shots, the Chinese Communist Party-run newspaper People’s Daily suggested on Thursday, days after Beijing admitted its domestically produced coronavirus vaccines “don’t have very high protection rates.”

“Facing criticism for their slow inoculation campaigns, European countries are earnestly trying to fill the vaccine gap. At this crucial moment, Chinese vaccines can be a trustworthy alternative as they are not only available, but their safety has also been approved in several European Union (EU) member states,” the state-run People’s Daily wrote on April 15.

The recommendation came just five days after the director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Gao Fu, vowed to “solve the issue that current vaccines don’t have very high protection rates.”

“It’s now under consideration whether we should use different vaccines from different technical lines for the immunization process,” Gao said during a presentation on Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines and immunization strategies at a health conference in southwestern China’s Chengdu city on April 10.

Gao said he was referring to effectiveness rates for “vaccines in the world, not particularly for China,” when probed about his remarks at the conference by the Associated Press (AP) on April 11.

“He did not respond to further questions about which vaccines he was referring to,” the AP reported.

China’s Health Ministry has so far approved five Chinese-made coronavirus vaccine candidates for use in the country. Three of the vaccines were produced by either Sinovac or Sinopharm, both Chinese state-run biopharmaceutical companies. One vaccine was manufactured by the Chinese vaccine company CanSino, and another was developed by China’s Anhui Zhifei Longcom biopharmaceutical company in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a team led by Gao Fu at the Chinese CDC.

“The effectiveness of the vaccines range from just over 50 percent to 79 percent, based on what the companies have said,” the Associated Press reported on April 11. The developers of the Anhui Zhifei Longcom vaccine candidate – the most recently approved of the five shots – have yet to release late-stage clinical data on its safety or efficacy rate.

Mike Pompeo doesn’t rule out 2024 White House bid—even if Trump runs

The former secretary of state says ‘we’ll make those decisions another time’

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday that he has not ruled out running for Republican presidential nominee in 2024 — even if his former boss, President Donald Trump, makes another White House bid that year.

During an interview with Fox Business’ “WSJ at Large,” host Gerard Baker asked Pompeo, “Are you seriously pondering a run in 2024 for the Republican nomination?”

“Just like every day, I’m going to go work for the set of policies that I’ve been working on all my life, including these last four years as CIA director and then secretary of state,” Pompeo replied.

“I think America first makes an awful lot of sense,” he continued. “We’ve got to do that here at home as well.”

Pompeo went on to say, “What happens electorally in ’22 matters an awful lot. I’m going to go work to help good conservative candidates be elected, and then we’ll consider whether 2024 is an opportunity for me to go back to elected office or not. I love the fight, Gerry.”

Baker then asked, “If President Trump runs again — and all indications are that he may — would you run against him?”

“That’s a long way off,” Pompeo responded, “I don’t think any of us have figured out what we’re doing 2024.” But the former secretary of state left the possibility open, adding, “We’ll make make those decisions another time.”

Cop Suspended For Refusing To Close Gym Due To COVID Lockdown, Hugging Gym Members

Sergeant is under Internal Affairs investigation after being harangued by corporate journalist for hugging protesters and not wearing a mask

A Canadian police sergeant refused to close down a small business in Mississauga, Ontario this week, and offered hugs to supporters and staff, appearing to enrage a corporate journalist who hovered around the anti-lockdown rally with a video camera.

The sergeant was later suspended for not wearing a face mask, and will be subjected to an Internal Affairs investigation.

The city of Mississauga has repeatedly tried to force the ownership of HUF Boxing Gym to cease operations due to COVID lockdown rules, but the gym has defied local politicians’ demands and held an anti-lockdown rally this week.

Global News reporter Sean O’Shea appeared on the scene and began taping the supporters with a video camera, drawing the ire of several protesters.

Rep. Mullin Absolutely DESTROYS Chris Wray Over FBI for Targeting Conservatives

Black Lives Matter-Antifa mobs have caused over one billion dollars in damages in cities across America since May. In Minneapolis alone Black Lives Matter mobs damaged or destroyed over 1,500 businesses or buildings.

Over 700 police officers were injured in the BLM riots — and that was back in June!

Black Lives Matter was linked to conservatively 91% of the riots that resulted in the most expensive property damage in US insurance history

Democrats incited the Black Lives Matter mobs for months as they destroyed communities across the country.

For years FBI Director has ignored this coordinated and planned Antifa-BLM violence.

Kamala Harris’ Niece Calls for Defunding Police, White House Throws Officer Under the Bus

Tensions are high surrounding the police shooting of 13-year old Adam Toledo.

While it’s unquestionable that the incidence is a tragic one to be sure, what people can’t seem to agree on is whether or not Toledo was armed when he was shot and killed. Those who claim he is not have had to turn to deceptive tactics, however. As Matt reported, CBS News omitted the frame which shows Toledo armed.

But the network isn’t the only one letting its bias show. While Kamala Harris’ niece, Meena Harris, has been vocal about the issue, including with calls to defund the police, the White House isn’t so supportive of them either during a Friday press briefing, not in the Adam Toledo shooting.

This is hardly the first time that Meena has had controversial tweets on shootings. While she did delete an explosively racist tweet where she rushed to claim Ahmad Al Issa–the suspect in the Boulder, Colorado shooting–was white, rather than wait for the facts, shestill justified her initial comments.

Biden Admin Clears The Way To Allow Research On Fetal Tissue From Abortions

On Friday, the Biden administration announced the removal of a previous barrier that restricted certain kinds of research conducted on fetal tissue from elective abortions.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) released a statement on Friday saying that it was undoing some of the previous administration’s policies regarding research conducted on fetal tissue gathered from abortions.

The statement said that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is “reversing its 2019 decision that all research applications for NIH grants and contracts proposing the use of human fetal tissue from elective abortions will be reviewed by an Ethics Advisory Board.” It added that another Human Fetal Tissue Research Ethics Advisory Board will not be created.

The statement noted: “NIH reminds the community of expectations to obtain informed consent from the donor for any NIH-funded research using human fetal tissue … and of continued obligations to conduct such research only in accord with any applicable federal, state, or local laws and regulations, including prohibitions on the payment of valuable consideration for such tissue.”

During a hearing at the House of Representatives on Thursday, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra discussed the changes prior to the official announcement, as reported by Politico.

Housing construction rebounds, signals strong spring

Housing construction is expected to remain strong throughout the year

WASHINGTON — U.S. housing construction rebounded strongly in March with home builders recovering from an unusually frigid February that shut down projects.

Builders began construction on new homes and apartments at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.74 million units in March, the Commerce Department reported Friday, a 19.4% increase over February when housing construction fell by 11.3%.

Severe storms raked several regions of the country in February, setting construction back.

According to the report, applications for building permits, a good sign of future activity, increased by 2.7% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.77 million units.

Economists expect housing construction to remain strong this year given the record low level of homes for sale. A new report from mortgage giant Freddie Mac concluded that the housing market is 3.8 million single-family homes short of what’s needed to meet demand — a 52% increase from a significant housing shortage in 2018.

“We expect the pace of housing starts to moderate slightly over the balance of 2021 but still look for starts to increase more than 6% this year,” Nancy Vanden Houten, lead economist at Oxford Economics, said in a research note.
