Elon Musk is giving “serious thought” to donating to Nigel Farage’s Reform U.K. party in Britain, the British populist said.
The news comes as Farage and Reform U.K. treasurer Nick Candy met with Musk at President-elect Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.
“Money was discussed. We are in negotiations about whether he can help. He is fully behind this,” Farage said, as reported by The Times of London. “He is motivated enough by what’s going on in Britain to give serious thought to giving money.”
“Our primary goal was to discuss what he did in the ground campaign. There is no doubt his influence made a huge difference [during the US election]. I learnt a lot about voter registration.”
Musk may be able to donate to the populist party through U.K. branches of X or Tesla.
The Labour Party said it may tighten donation rules. “We are considering changes that will help protect our system from foreign interference, such as tighter controls on donations,” a party spokesman said.
Following the meeting, Farage wrote on X, “Britain Needs Reform.”
Musk responded, “Absolutely.”
Prior to the meeting, reports circulated that Musk may give up to $100 million to Reform U.K. Farage dismissed the reports, saying at the time that the matter had not been discussed.
“What I do know is that Elon Musk is very supportive of me, what I’m trying to do, and he thinks that if Reform do well in the UK, we can bring about the same kind of change that he intends to do with Donald Trump in America,” Farage said.
