Michigan High School Senior Dies After Suddenly Collapsing During Basketball Game

Michigan high school senior, Cartier Woods, collapsed during a basketball game on Jan 31 and passed away on Feb 6 after being put on life support.

Woods was a senior at Northwestern High School and was playing in a game when he told his coach, George Tyson, that he was feeling dizzy.

Moments later, Woods collapsed onto the court and Tyson began administering CPR.

Emergency responders arrived about 10 minutes later and managed to restore Woods’ heart to a normal rhythm but he remained on life support and never regained consciousness before passing away.

The Detroit Public Schools Community District released a statement expressing their heartbreak at the sudden loss of Woods.

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share that Cartier Woods has passed. His aunt decided to remove him from life support after vital signs continued to be absent.

The DPSCD community is heartbroken by this sudden and untimely loss,” the statement read.

Woods’ cousin expressed her shock at the collapse, saying that Cartier was “very healthy.”

The Woods family has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses, and the financial goal is to reach $20,000 with donations reaching nearly $9,400 so far.

Melonie Woods, Cartier’s cousin, explained in the GoFundMe that Cartier was adopted by her mother, Dwanda, when he was just three days old and “helped him along the way to do what he loved to do play SPORTS.”

The sudden passing of Cartier Woods has shaken the community and left friends, family, and the school system heartbroken.

The Detroit Public Schools Community District has expressed its gratitude to everyone who has provided their prayers and well wishes.

The community is waiting for further information on arrangements to be made available.
