Melania Trump announced her mother’s passing on Tuesday evening.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,” she wrote on X. “Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”

Knavs was 78 years old.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed during a New Year’s Eve celebration that Melania’s mother was “very ill.”
Explaining his wife’s absence, Trump said that she is at a “hospital with her mother” who is “very ill.”
“It’s a tough one, a very tough one,” Trump added, noting that his wife “knows about 95 percent of the people in this room” and “sends her love.”
Trump continued that “[w]e are going to have a great year” and emphasized that “we’re going to turn [the country] around pretty quickly.”
“We’re going to have a great 2024, we’re going to make America great again.”
