A recent poll conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post has revealed startling results concerning Joe Biden’s physical and mental capacity to serve another term in office.

The poll results were discussed by ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on “This Week,” who described the findings as “just brutal for President Biden.”

According to the survey, which was conducted between April 28 and May 3, 63% of American adults do not believe that the 80-year-old president possesses the “mental sharpness” required to serve effectively.

This is a significant increase of nine percentage points from a similar poll conducted a year ago, in which 54% of respondents doubted his mental capacity.

In contrast, only 32% believe he has the necessary mental sharpness, with 5% having no opinion on the matter.

The poll also revealed that 62% of Americans questioned Biden’s physical health, asserting that he is not in “good enough physical health” to serve as president.

Only 33% believed he is physically fit for the role, with 5% remaining undecided.

When the same questions were posed regarding former President Donald Trump, who is currently leading the GOP presidential primary, the results were notably different.

Fifty-four percent of respondents believed Trump has the mental sharpness for the presidency, while 64% deemed him physically capable – both figures surpassing those of President Biden.

The poll’s impact extends beyond the concerns surrounding Biden’s mental and physical fitness, as his approval rating has also taken a hit.

Dropping six points since February, his approval rating now stands at a mere 36%, while 56% of respondents disapprove of his performance thus far.

Furthermore, a majority of Americans (54%) believe Trump handled the economy better than Biden, with only 36% preferring Biden’s economic performance.

In a hypothetical 2024 matchup, the poll indicated that Trump would defeat Biden by a margin of 7 points.
