Maine Teacher Calls for Assassination of Trump Supporters, Remains Employed Amid Investigation

JoAnna St. Germain, an English teacher at Waterville Senior High School in Maine, has come under scrutiny after posting inflammatory remarks on Facebook advocating for the assassination of President Donald Trump and his supporters. Despite the severity of her comments, St. Germain remains listed on the school’s staff directory, and her employment status has not been officially clarified.

In her now-deleted posts, St. Germain called on the U.S. Secret Service and military to “take out” individuals supporting what she described as Trump‘s “illegal, immoral, unconstitutional acts.” She further stated that if she possessed the necessary skills, she would carry out the acts herself. These statements prompted investigations by local law enforcement and the Secret Service.

Following public backlash, St. Germain attributed her comments to a mental breakdown caused by severe insomnia and past trauma. She expressed remorse for her violent language, stating that such sentiments do not reflect her true character when mentally well. However, she maintained her opposition to what she perceives as the rise of fascism under Trump’s leadership.

Superintendent Peter Hallen of Waterville Public Schools acknowledged awareness of the situation and assured that steps were being taken to ensure safety and conduct a thorough investigation. Despite these assurances, no definitive action regarding St. Germain’s employment has been publicly disclosed.

The incident has raised concerns about the appropriateness of educators expressing violent political rhetoric, particularly when entrusted with the responsibility of guiding young minds. The community awaits further clarification on the school’s response to ensure that standards of conduct are upheld.
