Some progressive women have recently taken to shaving their heads as a form of protest against President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
These individuals, sharing videos on social media, claim they are protesting the “patriarchy,” even though millions of American women cast their votes for Trump.
“[Expletive] coloring our hair. [Expletive] having my hair be long and luxurious. [Expletive] all that shit. [Expletive] being skinny. [Expletive] being hot. [Expletive] being all the things that the patriarchy wants us to be, because clearly, they don’t give a shit about us,” one said.
In one such video, a woman in a purple shirt announces that she is “giving up on America” while shaving part of her head. She goes on to argue that traditional beauty standards should be disregarded, asserting that these standards are driven by “patriarchal” expectations.
The woman also mentions her support for the 4B movement, which, as reported by Sky News, originated in South Korea and encourages women to refrain from romantic relationships with men as a response to perceived societal inequality.
A few women in the U.S. have expressed interest in joining this movement, viewing it as a form of “punishment” for men and for American society.
