Kamala Harris to be Awarded for Shaping ‘Equitable Future’

Former President Kamala Harris will receive the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award on February 22.

The NAACP is a social justice civil rights organization.

“Vice President Kamala Harris is more than a leader — she is a force of change, driven by an unwavering passion to shape a brighter, more equitable future. It is with great honor that we present her with the Chairman’s Award at this year’s NAACP Image Awards, celebrating her relentless dedication to justice, equality, and the betterment of our society,” Leon W. Russell, chair of the NAACP’s national board of directors, said in a statement, as per Variety. “Her legacy is built on courage, compassion, and a profound commitment to uplifting those who need it most. Her tireless advocacy for the most vulnerable among us has made her a beacon of hope and progress.”

BET Media Group’s President and CEO Scott Mills said it is a “privilege” to honor Harris with the award. “Her unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and progress has inspired millions, and her journey is a powerful testament to that which can be achieved through resilience, strength, and brilliance,” Mills stated.

NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson described Harris as the embodiment of “power, grace, and unyielding courage.”

“With bold determination, Vice President Harris fights for justice, amplifies the voices of the marginalized, and stands as a beacon of hope,” Johnson said. “She embodies the resilience and brilliance of Black women, uplifting their legacy as the driving force behind change in this country. VP Harris reminds us all that when Black women lead, the entire nation rises.”

The NAACP recently released guidance urging Black Americans to avoid businesses moving away from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.

“Support businesses and organizations that maintain and expand their DEI commitments and prioritize investment in Black communities,” the guidance says.

“The NAACP recognizes that the rollback of DEI initiatives is a direct attack on Black economic progress, civil rights, and the principles of equity and fairness. These actions are part of a broader effort to reverse gains made in civil rights and social justice,” the organization claims.
