Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly weighing a 2028 presidential run. She may also consider a 2026 gubernatorial run in California.
A Democratic strategist familiar with the development told The Daily Mail, “Of course she’s going to try and run again.”
Politico reported that Harris has also told advisors that she is “staying in the fight.”
A former Harris campaign aide told the outlet, “She doesn’t have to decide if she wants to run for something again in the next six months.”
“The natural thing to do would be to set up some type of entity that would give her the opportunity to travel and give speeches and preserve her political relationships,” the source said.
“Could she run for governor? Yes. Do I think she wants to run for governor? Probably not. Could she win? Definitely. Would she like the job? I don’t know. Could she run for president again? Yes,” former Harris aide Brian Brokaw said. “Would she have a whole bunch of skepticism from the outset, because she has run in a full-length Democratic primary where [in 2019] she didn’t even make it long enough to be in the Iowa caucus, and then she was the nominee this year?”
“On the other hand, people can learn a lot from their previous adversity, too,” Brokaw added.
A recent survey found that almost half of California voters would support Vice President Kamala Harris if she ran for California Governor.
According to the poll from the University of California at Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, 72% of Democrats would be likely or somewhat likely to support Harris. Among Republicans and Independents, 8% and 38%, respectively, said they would be likely or somewhat likely to support Harris in a possible gubernatorial run.
Among all likely voters surveyed, 46% said they would be inclined to support Harris.
