Judge Halts Deportation of Boulder Bomber’s Wife & Kids

A Biden-appointed federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting the wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman—the suspect in a fire‑bomb attack during a pro‑Israel rally in Boulder. U.S. District Judge Gordon Gallagher issued an emergency restraining order on June 4, 2025, citing the risk of “irreparable harm” and scheduled a hearing for June 13.

The family arrived on visitor visas in August 2022 and have remained in the U.S. for over two years while Soliman pursued asylum. Homeland Security had moved to expedite their deportation following the attack. But the court agreed that individuals cannot be punished for a relative’s alleged crimes—calling the effort “collective punishment” and legally unsound.

Authorities continue investigating whether the family had prior knowledge or involvement. Despite being detained at a Texas immigration facility, only Soliman is facing charges. The restraining order halts their removal but does not order release from custody.

This case raises complex legal questions about due process and family separation in immigration policies. The administration defends its actions as necessary for national security, while critics warn against punishing relatives for crimes they did not commit. The June 13 hearing will determine if the family may continue seeking asylum in the U.S.
