Israel’s Population Reaches Historic 10 Million Milestone in 2024

Israel’s population surpassed the 10 million mark in 2024, according to the nation’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). As of December 31, 2024, the population reached approximately 10.027 million, marking a significant milestone for the country.

The CBS report detailed the composition of Israel’s population: 7.707 million people (76.9%) are Jews and others, 2.104 million (21.0%) are Arabs, and 0.216 million (2.1%) are classified as foreigners. Despite reaching this milestone, Israel’s population growth rate slowed to 1.1% in 2024 compared to 1.6% in 2023, attributed largely to an increase in emigration.

Natural population growth contributed significantly to the increase. Approximately 181,000 babies were born in 2024, with 76% born to Jewish and other mothers and 24% to Arab mothers. The overall population grew by 129,600 through natural increase, but net international migration was negative at -18,200.

The report also highlighted that 82,700 Israelis relocated abroad in 2024, a sharp rise influenced by challenges related to ongoing conflicts. This contributed to a negative migration balance for the year, although the country’s high fertility rate ensured continued growth overall.

The Times of Israel noted that the war-related burdens likely drove the significant rise in emigration, reflecting the pressures faced by many Israelis. Despite these challenges, Israel’s population growth remains a testament to its robust natural increase rate, which outpaces migration losses.

The historic population milestone underscores Israel’s dynamic demographic development and the resilience of its society amidst geopolitical and economic pressures.
