Illegal Alien Freed After Child Abduction Charges Dropped—ICE Steps In

An illegal Honduran national, Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on May 2 in Fairfax, Virginia, after local authorities dropped serious charges against him, including child abduction and home invasion.

Baquedano-Rodriguez, 26, had been arrested in June 2023 for breaking into an Annandale apartment and attempting to abduct a 4-year-old girl. The child’s mother was awakened by her daughter’s screams and discovered an open window and her child on the floor. Fingerprints at the scene matched Baquedano-Rodriguez, leading to his arrest. The victim’s mother expressed ongoing trauma from the incident, noting that both she and her daughter are seeking counseling.

In May 2025, the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office dropped the charges after a judge rejected a plea deal, stating the proposed two-year sentence was too lenient. The judge expressed concern that accepting the plea would “endanger the community.”

ICE Field Office Director Russell Hott commented, “Though the court saw fit to drop his most recent charges, Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez has been convicted of numerous crimes in Virginia and represents a calamitous hazard to our Virginia residents.”

Baquedano-Rodriguez had previously been arrested multiple times in Fairfax County between 2021 and 2023, including charges related to indecent exposure and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Despite ICE detainers, he was released each time without notification to federal authorities.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin emphasized the importance of public safety, stating, “Protecting Virginians has been a top priority of our administration since day one, and it should be a priority for every leader at the federal, state and local level.”

After the charges were dropped, ICE agents arrested Baquedano-Rodriguez and served him with a warrant of removal. He remains in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings.
