Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) erupted at a reporter Thursday after being asked about Democrats advocating for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant deported due to alleged MS-13 ties. The Daily Caller’s Myles Morell asked Omar if more Democrats should travel to El Salvador to support Garcia. Omar responded twice: “I think you should f*** off.”
As Morell sought clarification, Omar reaffirmed, “You should [expletive] off.” An aide then intervened, stating, “We’re not taking any questions right now.”
The heated exchange follows a recent trip by five Democrats, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen, to El Salvador on Garcia’s behalf. Garcia, deported under President Trump’s crackdown on gang violence, has denied MS-13 connections through his legal team, though documents suggest otherwise.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries reportedly discouraged further trips, highlighting an internal Democrat rift over deportation policy. Meanwhile, Omar doubled down online, stating, “I said what I said. You and all your miserable trolls can [expletive] off.”
Omar’s conduct sparked widespread backlash. Popular British media personality Piers Morgan commented, “Reminder: Democrats say Donald Trump has lowered the tone of political rhetoric…”
Conservative political commentators Charlie Kirk and Tami Lahren also called out the congresswoman’s behavior. “This woman has no class, no gratitude to America, and no honor. Truly a disgrace to the US Congress,” Kirk said, while Lahren referred to Omar as a “nasty woman.”
Washington Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross added, “Democrats are not used to being asked non-softball questions by Capitol Hill reporters.”
Omar’s pattern of incendiary remarks has drawn criticism before, including her removal from the House Foreign Affairs Committee and backlash for past anti-Israel comments.
“That was very unprofessional of her,” Morell said after the encounter. “Elected officials should not be acting this way.”
