A confidential International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report has concluded that, as of May 17, Iran has stockpiled 408.6 kg of uranium enriched to 60% purity, representing a 50% increase since February — enough materials near weapons-grade levels. This makes Iran the only non-nuclear-weapon state producing uranium at such high enrichment.
The IAEA also uncovered traces of undeclared nuclear activity at three sites—Lavisan‑Shian, Varamin, and Turquzabad—dating from the early 2000s and involving undeclared nuclear material, raising suspicions of a previously concealed weapons program.
In response, Western powers including the US, UK, France, and Germany are preparing a resolution to declare Iran non‑compliant with its non‑proliferation obligations at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in the week of June 9.
Iran has rejected the report as politically motivated, reaffirmed its cooperation stance, and warned of “appropriate measures” if deemed non-compliant.
Israel’s Prime Minister called for immediate global action, asserting Iran’s enrichment has “no civilian justification.”
