Hunter Biden faces yet another scandal as his former attorneys at Winston & Strawn filed a lawsuit on Monday, alleging the former first son owes “substantially in excess of $50,000 in fees and interest.” The firm represented him in high-profile federal gun and tax cases.
“This is breach of contract action against Mr. Biden for unpaid legal fees,” the complaint states. “Despite repeated requests for payment, Mr. Biden has failed to pay the amounts he owes.”
The firm noted it had “devoted substantial resources to defend” Biden and suffered “substantial financial damages” due to his nonpayment. According to court documents, Biden never disputed the firm’s invoices.
Winston & Strawn’s lawsuit underscores the ongoing pattern of Hunter Biden’s financial mismanagement. Convicted of felony gun charges and found guilty of tax evasion on more than $1.4 million in unpaid taxes from 2016 to 2019, Biden later benefited from a presidential pardon issued by his father, President Joe Biden, in December.
This lawsuit is not Hunter’s first financial controversy. In 2024, Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris testified he had been covering Hunter’s legal expenses but later admitted he was “completely tapped out.”
While Biden’s elite connections may offer temporary lifelines, his legal debts are catching up. As Winston & Strawn now seeks legal remedy, the case highlights a growing list of broken commitments tied to the president’s son.
An initial hearing is set for September 19.
