‘How Awesome Would It Be to Make Donald Trump Speaker of the House?’: Conservative Leaders Want Former President to Fill House Speakership

After Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was voted out of the House Speaker position on Tuesday, a first in U.S. history, some conservative voices immediately started floating the idea of nominating former U.S. President Donald J. Trump to the job.

The U.S. Constitution does not require the Speaker of the House to be an incumbent member of the House of Representatives, even though every Speaker thus far has been.

“Donald Trump should be nominated as a litmus test to all these Republicans. With all the fake charges and all the fake trials, how awesome would it be to make Donald Trump Speaker of the House?” InfoWars host Alex Jones said following news of McCarthy’s ouster.

Right-wing media executive Steve Bannon also called for a Trump speakership, arguing the former President’s business acumen could help him take on America’s now $33 trillion-dollar debt.

After emphasizing McCarthy’s pledge not to run for Speaker again, Representative Troy Nehls (R-TX) nominated President Trump to the position.

“I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House,” he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“.@realDonaldTrump for Speaker 🇺🇸,” wrote Rep. Greg Stube (R-FL).

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) wrote, “The only candidate for Speaker I am currently supporting is President Donald J. Trump.”

“He will end the war in Ukraine. He will secure the border. He will end the politically weaponized government. He will make America energy independent again. He will pass my bill to stop transgender surgeries on kids and keep men out of women’s sports. He will support our military and police. And so much more!” she added.

“He has a proven 4 year record as President of the United States of America. He received a record number of Republican votes of any Republican Presidential candidate! We can make him Speaker and then elect him President! He will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! 🇺🇸”

Newsmax host Carl Higbie also tested the idea during a live broadcast.

“PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE,” conservative investigative journalist Laura Loomer posted.

Comedy and political commentary duo The Hodgetwins also threw Trump’s name into the ring, writing, “Hodgetwins are officially nominating TRUMP as speaker of the house because it would be funny as hell to see the left and RINOs lose their mind 🤣.”

Journalist and podcast host Tim Pool put his support behind Trump, too.

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) was appointed as Acting Speaker following McCarthy’s ouster.

His first action was ordering former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to vacate her Capitol hideaway office by Wednesday.
