In a decisive move today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) announced an exhaustive investigation and full committee hearing into what he calls the “dereliction of duty” by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Americans across the country have faced the devastating costs of Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty at our Southwest border. From record amounts of fentanyl poisonings to the drain on border community resources, the American people want answers on this crisis,” stated Chairman Green.

Green revealed that the Homeland Security Committee plans to scrutinize all aspects of the issue, according to a press release.

“The Homeland Security Committee will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to get the facts,” he said.

“With over five million alien encounters at the Southwest border, 1.5 million known gotaways, and DHS’ use of the CBP One app to hide the truth, it’s imperative we shine a light on the misleading claims and intentionally reckless policy decisions that have created the worst border crisis in American history.”

The hearing, aptly named “Open Borders, Closed Case: Secretary Mayorkas’ Dereliction of Duty on the Border Crisis,” will take place on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM ET in the 310 Cannon House Office Building.

Scheduled to testify are notable figures such as Chad Wolf, former Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Rodney Scott, Visiting Fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation and former Border Patrol Chief, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and Joe Edlow, Managing Member of the Edlow Group and former Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

According to the Homeland Security Committee’s press release, the hearing will be available to the public and press, with a live stream on YouTube. However, press attendance requires congressional credentialing, and they must RSVP by Tuesday, June 13 at 6 pm ET.

Chairman Green’s initiative to investigate Secretary Mayorkas comes amidst widespread concern and criticism over the handling of the border crisis.

It remains to be seen what outcomes will result from this comprehensive examination.
