For 47 consecutive months, the sale of firearms in the United States has persistently crossed the 1 million mark, according to reports from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
June was no exception, with the agency’s background checks for gun purchases surpassing 1 million yet again, according to a report from The Washington Examiner.
The continuous upsurge is seen by many as a powerful affirmation of the nation’s Second Amendment rights.
Data provided by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), an industry representative, shed light on the specifics.
Out of the 2,152,187 background checks performed last month, it is estimated that 1,110,696 were for gun acquisitions and transfers.
The remaining checks were mainly related to carry and security permits.
In a statement, the NSSF announced, “June marks the 47th month in a row that has exceeded 1 million adjusted background checks in a single month.”
This statistic signifies a remarkable persistence in the purchase of firearms, giving many citizens a cause to celebrate Independence Day.
Mark Oliva, spokesman for the NSSF, expressed his enthusiasm for the record-breaking figures, saying, “Happy Independence Day.”
He highlighted the significance of this milestone, remarking, “Americans have another million reasons to celebrate this Independence Day. More than 1.1 million times in June, Americans exercised their Second Amendment rights to lawfully purchase a firearm. That extends the streak to 47 continuous months that background checks for firearm purchases have exceeded a million. This is notable because these figures buck the demands by gun control politicians to surrender rights. Americans choose differently. They choose, by the millions, to keep and bear arms. They are keeping alive the vision of our Founding Fathers that this would be a nation that celebrates the ethos of a responsibly armed citizenry.”
These statistics reveal a profound American belief in the ethos of a responsibly armed citizenry, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
Despite the calls for gun control from some political quarters, millions of Americans have consistently chosen to exercise their right to keep and bear arms, a decision which the last four years of gun sales data emphatically underlines.
