Group of House Republicans Plan to Remove Mike Johnson as Speaker

A faction of House Republicans is reportedly considering removing Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership role, according to Raw Story.

The push for Johnson’s ouster has gained momentum following Donald Trump’s presidential victory, with members of the Freedom Caucus expressing dissatisfaction with his performance.

“The speaker’s got work to do. He’s got work to do,” a member of the far-right Freedom Caucus, who asked to remain anonymous so they could speak candidly, told Raw Story. “There are members who are thinking about whether they want to support him or not. He’s not there yet.”

Critics within the party have labeled Johnson an “abysmal failure,” arguing that he has not effectively advanced the GOP agenda.

Despite his close alignment with President-elect Trump, including appearances at Mar-a-Lago and a recent UFC event, some conservatives remain unconvinced of his ability to lead the party in the House.

With the GOP holding a razor-thin majority, dissent from even a small group of Republicans could lead to a chaotic leadership struggle similar to the one that plagued the start of the 118th Congress, when Kevin McCarthy required 15 rounds of voting to become Speaker.

The growing tension highlights ongoing divisions within the Republican Party as it prepares to navigate the challenges of unified governance under a Trump administration.
