Greenland Envoy Makes First Trip

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R), the U.S. Special Envoy to Greenland, made his first trip to the country.

His trip, running from May 17 through May 20, focuses on the “Future Greenland” conference. “This is basically a trip that gives us an opportunity to collect information on what Greenlanders view as opportunities,” Landry said during an interview with The Epoch Times. “The ambassador’s team has been working closely with the Future Greenland conference and the stakeholders that are in Greenland, trying to identify those industries or stakeholders who want to expand opportunities with the United States, and those are the meetings that we’re going to be having,” he explained.

In a separate interview with Denmark’s national broadcaster, DR, Landry said, “I’m here to simply to build relationships and to look and listen and to learn and to see if there are opportunities to expand the relationship between Greenland and the United States and Denmark. It’s a great day. I’m excited, I really am.”

President Trump announced that Landry would be the special envoy to Greenland in December. He wrote on Truth Social at the time, “I am pleased to announce that I am appointing the GREAT Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, as the United States Special Envoy to Greenland. Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security, and will strongly advance our Country’s Interests for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Allies, and indeed, the World. Congratulations Jeff!”

“Thank you @realDonaldTrump! It’s an honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S,” Landry wrote in response. “This in no way affects my position as Governor of Louisiana!
