New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is pleading for citizens and businesses to return to the Big Apple after implementing harsh COVID restrictions for more than a year. During a recent virtual conference with the Association for a Better New York, Cuomo urged companies to bring employees back to working in person.
This comes as the Democrat governor said he fears the city’s economy will not recover on its own.
“Now we have to do two things at once. We have to manage this COVID increase and it’s real, but at the same time we have to have an affirmative plan to bring back New York state and New York City,” said Cuomo. “New York City is not going to come back on its own.”
Cuomo claimed short-term remote work was acceptable to prevent the virus’ spread, but suggested it’s time to return back to the office. Otherwise, local businesses and restaurants are in a position to suffer.
His remarks came after a recent study found 15 percent less people were returning to New York, primarily due to Cuomo’s strict lockdown policies which sunk the economy.
