Georgia Court Dissolves Special Grand Jury Investigating Trump and Allies

Fulton County Judge Robert McBurney has dissolved the special grand jury investigating President Donald Trump and his allies for alleged crimes committed while attempting to overturn the election results, The Associated Press reports.

The grand jury, which was overseen by Judge McBurney, completed a final report after hearing testimony from various witnesses, including Georgia state officials and Trump associates, over the course of six months.

Special grand juries in Georgia do not have the power to issue indictments, but rather can recommend actions to be taken in a final report.

It is then up to the district attorney, in this case Fulton County’s Fani Willis, to decide whether to seek an indictment from a regular grand jury.

The investigation was launched by Willis after a recording of a phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger surfaced, in which Trump suggested Raffensperger could “find” the votes needed to overturn the state’s election results.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and referred to Willis’ investigation as a “strictly political Witch Hunt.”

This case is one of several around the country against Trump as he seeks a second term in 2024.
