Georgetown University Democrats Blast Federal Forces’ Campus Presence

Georgetown University’s College Democrats and Student Association are expressing alarm over the appearance of federal agents on campus. Photos and reports verified their presence, sparking strong reactions amid the broader deployment of federal law enforcement and National Guard forces in Washington, D.C.

The federal project began August 11, part of President Trump’s crime initiative that placed roughly 850 federal agents—and later, National Guard troops—into the city, including Georgetown’s grounds. Students, including College Democrats Co‑President Dhruv Shah, said agents were seen walking campus bonds in the evening. Shah labeled the presence “very concerning,” noting the university’s silence had amplified unease. Student Association President Ethan Henshaw called it “dangerous”.

Critics argue federal deployment appears political—overkill in a city with falling crime rates—and undermines D.C.’s autonomy. The federal force takeover of local policing triggered protests from residents and legal threats from officials like the D.C. Attorney General.

Georgetown’s students said the agents on their campus signaled broader concerns about militarization and overreach into academic spaces. Their frustration centers on lack of transparency and dialogue from university leadership.
