Former Presidential Speechwriters Call Biden’s State of the Union Address an ‘Utter Disgrace’

Former presidential speechwriters called President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address Thursday night an “utter disgrace.”

Biden took constant aim at former President Donald Trump, whom he only referred to as “his predecessor.”

“This was the most partisan State of the Union I’ve heard in my lifetime,” Bill McGurn, who served as chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush, said.

“No outreach to Republicans, and the clear message was this: the era of big government is back, with a vengeance,” McGurn added.

The president also mispronounced the name of Laken Riley, the 22-year-old Georgia nursing student recently murdered by an illegal alien while out on a run.

“What about Laken Riley? Say her name!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) shouted at Biden.

“Lincoln Riley!” Biden responded to Greene. “An innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. That’s right. But how many of thousands of people have been killed by illegals? To her parents, I say, my heart goes out to you, having lost children myself. I understand.”

House Republicans wore pins honoring Riley at the address, while Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) left a seat empty in honor of Riley and her friends and family.

The President threatened Supreme Court justices seated a few feet away during the speech, speaking about the court’s ruling putting abortion back in the hands of the states.

“With all due respect, Justices, Women are not without electrical power! Excuse me, electoral or political power,” Biden told the Justices in attendance.

Marc Theissen, who also served as a speechwriter for Bush, said Biden’s speech was an “utter disgrace.”

“Attacking his opponent directly in the first minutes of his speech is unprecedented and perhaps the most partisan start to a State of the Union address in modern memory,” Theissen said.

“As someone who helped write several SOTUs and who reveres this important presidential institution, I’m stunned by this address,” Thiessen continued. “It’s an utter disgrace.”
