Five people were injured in a shooting Friday night in Northeast Washington, D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). All the victims—three men and two women—were reported to be “conscious and breathing” following the incident.
Emergency services transported two victims to the hospital, while two others sought medical care independently. A fifth person was later confirmed to have been injured in the incident, as reported by WUSA9.
The MPD has indicated that the shooting stemmed from a dispute among individuals who were acquainted with one another. Detectives arrived on the scene shortly after the incident to begin their investigation.
“Alert: Shooting investigation in the 1500 block of Harry Thomas Way NE. Preliminary: Adult male and adult female located at the scene, transported conscious and breathing. Two additional adult males arrived at a hospital, both conscious and breathing,” DC Police Department wrote on X.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the identities of the victims or the specific circumstances leading to the violence. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident occurred just two days after a mass shooting was reported at a New York nightclub.
Ten people, six females and four males, were wounded in the gunfire outside Amazura Concert Hall, according to the Associated Press.
The event unfolded after four men approached a group of 16 to 20-year-olds. About 30 shots were fired. The gunmen were seen getting into a sedan.
New York Police Department Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said there is “zero tolerance for these senseless shootings.” He added, “This is not terrorism.”
The venue said in an Instagram post, “We are deeply saddened by the recent and unfortunate isolated incident that occurred. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act. We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation and to help bring those responsible to justice.”
CBS News reported that 90 people were inside the location for a private event.
