The FBI has seized election records from Maricopa County, Arizona through a grand jury subpoena, expanding a 2020 election investigation that already led to a raid on a Georgia election office last month.
Just The News first reported the development Sunday night, citing multiple people familiar with the probe. Agents are receiving gigabytes of data from the county under the subpoena. The FBI has not publicly disclosed the seizure.
President Trump responded Monday morning on Truth Social with a single word: “Great!!!”
Warren Petersen, the Arizona Senate President, said on social media, “President Trump is 100% correct.”
“Late last week I received and complied with a federal grand jury subpoena for records relating to the Arizona State Senate’s 2020 audit of Maricopa County,” he wrote. “The FBI has the records. Any other report is fake news.”
The Maricopa subpoena comes roughly a month after FBI agents raided the Fulton County, Georgia election office as part of a separate 2020 election interference investigation.
Maricopa County has long been at the center of Republican concerns about election integrity. Trump carried the county in 2016 and again in 2024, but lost it and the state of Arizona to President Biden in 2020.
A Republican-controlled Arizona Senate audit after the 2020 election found that more than 200,000 ballots were counted without being reviewed despite containing mismatched signatures. A 2024 investigation by election observers found blank and filled-out absentee ballots in the same warehouse on election night. That observer report, which includes photographs showing heavily guarded absentee ballots, has not been made public.
The Maricopa investigation lands as Trump pushes for the SAVE America Act, which would require states to verify voter IDs to confirm only U.S. citizens are casting ballots. The bill passed the House last month but has stalled in the Senate. Trump said Sunday he will not sign any other legislation until the bill reaches his desk.
