Democrats who demanded aggressive enforcement of the FACE Act against pro-life demonstrators are now declining to comment after federal charges were filed against left-wing activists who disrupted a Minnesota church service. The contrast has drawn attention as Attorney General Pam Bondi moves forward with prosecutions tied to the Jan. 18 incident at a Twin Cities Baptist church.
In March 2025, Reps. Sean Casten and Jan Schakowsky of Illinois and Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York led a 75-member letter urging Bondi to “fully enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.” The lawmakers argued that limiting enforcement of the law would endanger access to reproductive health care facilities. Fox News Digital later contacted the same lawmakers to ask whether the FACE Act should also apply to agitators who disrupted a church service. None responded.
The Minnesota disruption involved demonstrators interrupting worship, including heckling a minister reportedly connected to local Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. Bondi’s office has since brought FACE Act charges against alleged organizers, including St. Paul school board member Chauntyll Louisa Allen and activist Nekima Levy Armstrong, whom authorities said played a “key role” in organizing the incident.
In their earlier letter, Democrats wrote, “Individuals have the right to freedom of speech and the right to peacefully gather to protest.” They added, “However, individuals do not have the right to use physical force or intimidation.”
Only one Democrat contacted by Fox News Digital responded. A representative for Rep. Eric Swalwell said the office was “looking into” the matter.
After charges were announced, Bondi stated, “Listen loud and clear, we do not tolerate attacks on places of worship.”
