Walmart has recalled over 200,000 camping stoves after multiple explosions led to serious injuries. The affected product is the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove, model number BG2247A1, sold in stores and online from March 2023 to October 2025. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 26 incidents were reported involving the stoves catching fire or exploding during use, including during camping trips and backyard cookouts.
At least 16 of those incidents resulted in injuries, including cases of second-degree burns. The stoves, manufactured by China Window Industry Co. Ltd., were imported and distributed exclusively through Walmart. The CPSC has identified a malfunction that can cause the stove to explode without warning, posing a serious fire and burn hazard to unsuspecting users and nearby individuals.
Consumers who purchased the stove are urged to stop using it immediately. Walmart is offering a full refund, even without a receipt. The recall notice provides detailed instructions for returning the stove safely. The CPSC and Walmart emphasize that the product should not be used under any circumstances due to the risk of severe injury.
The recall raises questions about the safety of imported consumer goods and the need for stricter quality control in mass retail. Many families rely on camping stoves not just for outdoor use but also for emergency preparedness. A malfunctioning product of this nature can pose a direct threat to household safety and overall consumer trust.
