Less than two weeks into his second term, President Donald Trump has wasted no time in implementing his agenda, focusing on national security, economic reform, and government accountability.
One of Trump’s first priorities has been addressing illegal immigration and national defense. His administration has already ramped up border security efforts, leading to the arrest and deportation of thousands of illegal immigrants with criminal records. Additionally, the administration has taken strong action against terrorist threats abroad.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, who has been working closely with the administration in an advisory role, has pushed for government efficiency and fiscal responsibility.
On Saturday, Musk announced that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had already identified significant spending cuts, aiming to reduce the national deficit substantially by the end of the fiscal year. This comes after the Biden administration left office with a soaring $1.8 trillion deficit in 2024.
Treasury officials have also begun reviewing federal agencies for wasteful spending, with Trump’s economic team vowing to restore fiscal discipline and economic stability. As the administration moves forward, it remains committed to policies that prioritize American taxpayers, national security, and economic growth.
Earlier last month, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that she plans to launch a state Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force to cut government spending.
“I like to say that we were doing DOGE before DOGE was a thing,” Reynolds said during her 2025 Condition of the State Address. “And to build on our success, I’m launching our own State DOGE, to find even greater savings and efficiencies in both state and local government. Because to pass meaningful property tax reform, we also need to be lean at the local level.”
She explained that in eighteen months, the state’s efficiency efforts have saved taxpayers $217 million.
Emily Schmitt, general counsel of Sukup Manufacturing, will lead the state’s DOGE. Schmitt called the move a display of “bold leadership.”
