A study from the British Medical Journal (BMJ) found that women vaccinated for COVID-19 had an increased risk of menstrual disturbances by 41%.
The purpose of the study was to “evaluate the risks of any menstrual disturbance and bleeding following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in women who are premenopausal or postmenopausal,” according to the journal.
Postmenopausal women who received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine had an increased risk for menstrual disturbances by 41%; women who received the Moderna vaccine had an increased risk by 33%.
Women who received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine had a 24% risk increase.
The statistics are compared to unvaccinated women.
Reporting from The National Pulse:
The news follows up to 40 percent of women reporting changes in their periods following vaccination against COVID-19. A U.S. government study also noted the link between menstrual cycle changes and the COVID vaccines last year.
