Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be deposed by the House Oversight Committee in their hometown next week.
“The Clintons’ depositions will be held in Chappaqua, New York on February 26 and 27 as an accommodation for their schedules. The depositions are in accordance with House and Committee rules,” a Committee spokesperson told Fox News.
The Clintons agreed to testify earlier this month. Bill Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Angel Ureña, said in a social media statement, “They negotiated in good faith. You did not. They told you under oath what they know, but you don’t care. But the former President and former Secretary of State will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”
The statement came in response to a letter sent by the House Oversight Committee to the Clintons’ attorneys, which said that the Clintons’ demands were “not reasonable.” According to the letter, “The conditions requested thus would enable President Clinton to refuse to answer whatever questions he wanted for whatever reasons he wanted and leave as the Committee’s only recourse to again subpoena President Clinton’s testimony, effectively restarting this entire process from the beginning.”
After the Clintons previously refused to comply with subpoenas, Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) declared, “they will be exposed as hypocrites.”
Upon defying his subpoena, Bill Clinton shared a letter addressed to Comer, also signed by Hillary Clinton, calling the subpoenas “legally invalid.”
The Clintons previously refused to appear for their depositions on December 17 and December 18, prompting the Committee to move the date.
