A group of Christian protesters were arrested in Paris after they protested the Olympic opening ceremony without first seeking approval from authorities.
The group drove through the city in a bus displaying an image of the opening ceremony and the statement, “Stop attacks on Christians!”
The Christians, part of the group CitizenGO, were stopped by police and taken to a station, The European Conservative reported.
Authorities said they had later “lifted the police custody and closed the case due to an irregularity, as the time limit for presentation to a judicial police officer was too late and the reason for the arrests was not sufficiently precise.”
CitizenGO quoted a lawyer as saying, “It appears impossible to constitute the crime of failing to communicate a protest because there is no protest in the presence of one unique vehicle. The prosecutor pushed the law to its limits to stop the bus and limit their free speech. Moreover, the procedure was irregular.”
According to Catholic campaigner Caroline Farrow, three women in the group were forced to be strip-searched for drugs.
Following the opening ceremony’s mockery of Christianity, CitizenGO launched a petition to demand an apology and explanation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Games sponsors.
“During the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, our Christian faith was openly mocked in the most offensive way imaginable,” the petition reads. “Watching nude transgenders and drag queens desecrate something so holy as the Last Supper was abhorrent and sickening to watch. The insult to our faith is so profound. We need to do SOMETHING about it!”
“Enough is enough! This grotesque spectacle was an affront to everything we hold sacred, and it cannot go unchallenged.”
The group added that if Christians remain silent, their faith and “Christian symbols will become a permanent parody promoted by queer, LGBTI, and trans lobbies, backed by our globalist leaders and the international left.”
“We cannot allow them to desecrate our Lord Jesus Christ with such obscenities,” the petition reads. “If we remain silent, we are sending a message that such disrespect is acceptable.”
More than 385,000 people have signed the petition.
