CBP Allows Texas National Guard to Assist in Federal Deportation Efforts

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has deputized the Texas National Guard to assist with deportation efforts.

The state’s agreement with the Trump administration will allow it to “formally assist with and facilitate the mass deportation of illegal aliens during President Donald Trump’s second term,” according to a press release from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office.

“On day one, President Trump took bold action to make America safe again. I am proud to be the first to join him to restore our national sovereignty, secure our border, and ensure that criminal aliens face the justice they deserve,” Paxton said. “As the top law enforcement official in Texas, I call on all agencies and departments to join me in the fight. We will enforce the law and protect America.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott referenced the agreement in a statement on X, writing, “In an agreement I signed between Texas and Trump’s Customs and Border Protection, the Texas National Guard is granted the power of immigration officials to make immigration arrests.”

He noted the agreement is “effective immediately.”

Abbott announced last week that he “deployed the Texas Tactical Border Force, comprised of hundreds of troops, to work side-by-side with U.S. Border Patrol agents to stop illegal immigrants from entering our country and to enforce immigration laws. For the past four years, Texas held the line against the Biden Administration’s border crisis and their refusal to protect Americans.”

“Finally, we have a federal government working to end this crisis. I thank President Donald Trump for his decisive leadership on the southern border and look forward to working with him and his Administration to secure the border and make America safe again,” he said.
