Veteran-owned construction software firm BuildOps has selected Raleigh, North Carolina, for its latest expansion hub, turning down Austin in favor of $2.8 million in incentives. The company plans to hire 291 employees over five years, offering average salaries of $110,000—well above Wake County’s current average of $76,643.
Based in Santa Monica, California, BuildOps will invest $711,000 in capital improvements for its new Raleigh office. The North Carolina Economic Investment Committee approved up to $1.8 million in Job Development Investment Grants, contingent on the company meeting job creation benchmarks. Local government support adds another $87,300 in incentives.
The company cited Raleigh’s lower cost of living, tax environment, and access to talent from nearby universities as key reasons for choosing North Carolina over Texas. According to the Commerce Department, roles at the new hub will include customer success managers and sales personnel.
BuildOps currently operates out of hubs in Toronto and Los Angeles. The company provides software solutions for commercial construction companies, handling operations such as dispatching, invoicing, scheduling, and financial reporting. Clay Smith, BuildOps’ vice president of implementation, noted the Triangle hub is expected to become the firm’s largest.
CEO Alok Chanani described the move as a strategic milestone. “This expansion is an important step in our ongoing mission to revolutionize the commercial trade industry, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the thriving Raleigh community,” he said.
North Carolina’s tech industry has seen rapid growth, expanding 25% since 2018—surpassing the national average. State officials attribute the growth to strong education and workforce development initiatives.
Governor Josh Stein praised the decision, emphasizing the state’s deep pool of tech talent. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley echoed the sentiment, citing North Carolina’s strong IT workforce as a magnet for high-growth companies like BuildOps.
