A recent investigation cleared U.S. Border agents of accusations of egregious misconduct supported by the White House.
QUICK FACTS:
- Reports broke in September of last year Customs and Border Patrol at the U.S.- Mexico border were whipping illegal immigrants, according to The New York Post.
- A recent probe by Customs and Border Protection Office Professional Responsibility found those claims to be false.
- The National Pulse reported that the “audacious attempts to malign U.S. Border officials” were found to have been baseless with no supporting evidence.
- The White House supported a citizen-prompted push to request that Joe Biden “denounce and cease the horrendous and inhumane” alleged practice.
COMMENTS FROM BORDER OFFICIALS:
- “The only reason that we know that they were cleared is because OPR [Office of Professional Responsibility] started their investigation and they compelled them to give a statement,” National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd said in a statement to The Daily Caller.
- “Once you compel somebody to give a statement, you can’t take criminal action against them,” Judd said.
BACKGROUND:
- The incident in question took place on September 19th, 2021 in Del Rio, Texas at a time when thousands of Haitian migrants were crossing into the United States illegally as part of a massive surge of illegal border crossings.
- The agents implicated in the accusations are still in danger of losing their jobs, according to a report by The New York Post.
