D.C. Crime Wave Explodes and Blue City Governance Lets Violence Reign

Washington, D.C., suffered another bloody crime wave over the weekend, leaving 12 people shot across the capital in just nine hours, according to police reports. The latest outbreak of violence underscored the city’s ongoing struggle with rising crime under liberal leadership, as families and college students faced danger during what should have been a weekend of celebration.

The first shooting occurred Friday around 5:30 p.m., when a teenage girl was wounded on Yuma Street in southeast D.C., FOX 5 reported. Fifteen minutes later, a teenage boy was struck by gunfire on 50th Street. Two hours later, another man was shot on 16th Street.  At 8:18 p.m., a 5-year-old boy’s face was grazed by a bullet while on Savannah Terrace.

The violence reached Howard University’s homecoming festivities minutes later, where three men, one woman, and a teenage boy were shot just steps from campus. None of the victims were students, though one was enrolled at Maryland’s Morgan State University. Police arrested two 19-year-old suspects and recovered three guns, though authorities said others might still be involved.

Additional shootings followed on Benning Road in northeast and on Hiatt Place in northwest, where one man was critically injured early Saturday. Officials described it as one of the most violent weekends of the year.

The crime wave comes as President Donald Trump continues efforts to deploy the National Guard across the city to combat surging violence and restore safety to the nation’s capital. Police continue searching for suspects in each case.
