Biden, Speaker Johnson to Meet With Zelenksy at White House

President Joe Biden and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to meet with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday.

“President Biden has invited President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to the White House for a meeting on Tuesday, December 12 to underscore the United States’ unshakeable commitment to supporting the people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against Russia’s brutal invasion,” Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

“As Russia ramps up its missile and drone strikes against Ukraine, the leaders will discuss Ukraine’s urgent needs and the vital importance of the United States’ continued support at this critical moment.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson will also be present at the meeting.

The meeting comes as the White House has pressured Congress to provide more funding to Ukraine.

“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks,” White House Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young wrote a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson. “There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money—and nearly out of time.”

The House Speaker shared the letter on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “The Biden Administration has failed to substantively address any of my conference’s legitimate concerns about the lack of a clear strategy in Ukraine, a path to resolving the conflict, or a plan for adequately ensuring accountability for aid provided by American taxpayers. Meanwhile, the Administration is continually ignoring the catastrophe at our own border.”

In October, the Biden administration sent $1.15 billion to Ukraine.
