Authorities Believe Gunman in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Case Boarded a Bus Leaving NYC

The search for the suspect who fatally shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan has expanded, as authorities now believe the gunman boarded a bus heading out of New York City shortly after the murder.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny revealed on Friday that surveillance footage captured the masked shooter entering the Port Authority bus terminal near 178th Street and Broadway roughly an hour after the crime.

“Those buses are interstate buses,” Kenny told CNN.

“That’s why we believe he may have left New York City,” he continued. “We have video of him entering the Port Authority Bus Terminal. We don’t have any video of him exiting so we believe he may have gotten on a bus.”

Sources indicate that the suspect likely boarded a bus bound for Atlanta, Georgia, as part of a calculated getaway. This revelation has prompted police to widen the scope of the investigation to track the suspect’s movements beyond the city.

Kenny also shed some light on the possible motive, although details remain speculative as investigators continue to piece together evidence. The killing, carried out in broad daylight outside the Hilton hotel, appeared deliberate and well-planned, but no suspects have been identified as of yet.

United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Tuesday morning in what authorities believe to be a targeted attack.

The 50-year-old executive had arrived at the hotel shortly before 7 a.m. for a conference when a masked assailant opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest.

Thompson was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the New York Police Department, the gunman appeared to have been waiting for Thompson’s arrival. No suspects are currently in custody.
