Arizona Refuses to Remove Makeshift Shipping Container Border Wall Patches

The containers are stacked two-high in areas where there is no fencing.

QUICK FACTS:
  • The state of Arizona’s Department of Emergency and Military Affairs has declined to move its shipping container wall barrier along the southern border.
  • Federal officials have alleged that the containers “trespass against the United States.”
  • The containers, stacked two-high in areas in Yuma County Arizona, consist of about 122 units which were ordered to be constructed by Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey in August of this year.
  • The reinforcements were placed, at least partially, on Cocopah Indian Tribe lands, according to federal authorities.
  • The U.S. Department of the Interior sent a letter to Arizona Homeland Security Director Tim Roemer on Oct 13 saying that the containers violated U.S. Law.
  • The Arizona Director of Emergency Management Allen Clark responded to the letter saying that there was no justification for the request.
ARIZONA’S RESPONSE TO THE LETTER:
  • “The myriad of federal agencies that claim jurisdiction on the southern border but do nothing to prevent the public nuisance caused by illegal immigration and criminal activity that exploits the open border is quite frustrating,” Clark wrote in the letter.
  • “Your letter incorrectly claims Arizona has trespassed against the United States,” it continues. “The State of Arizona is committed to working with all of our federal partners, including the BOR, to ensure the security of our state and protection of public and private lands … However to date, Arizona has not seen any action by the federal government to do so and was therefore required to take its own action.”
BACKGROUND:
  • Journalists have videoed illegal immigrants scaling the border wall in Arizona, uninterrupted, American Faith previously reported.
  • Fox News reporter Bill Melugin uploaded a video to Twitter on Tuesday showing dozens of migrants scaling a United States border wall in Arizona, uninhibited by law enforcement.
  • The reporter indicated that footage from the wall showed dozens of immigrants scaling the wall in the span of about 45 minutes.
