Al-Qaeda Issues New Year’s Threat Against Airlines

Al-Quaeda reportedly threatened an “open-source Jihad,” according to Fox News.

The threat was made in a video specifically targeting Western and Jewish populations.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is aware of the video, sharing with Fox News Digitial that while they are on alert, they are “not aware of any credible threats resulting from this video to date.”

“Foreign terrorist organizations routinely highlight transportation modes during the holidays,” the TSA wrote in an email. “TSA is operating at a high level of security and constant state of vigilance, as always.”

In the video, Al-Quaeda mentioned American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, British Airways, EasyJet, Air France, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as possible targets.

Leading up to Times Square’s New Year’s Eve celebration, Assistant Director of New York’s FBI Field Office James Smith warned that “there are threats out there.”

“We will have a footprint within the Time Square celebration to protect the community,” Smith said. We’ll have everything from our SWAT element to bomb teams out there working with our partners.”

“I would say overall that, yes, there are threats out there, but we are out there to protect the community day in and day out,” he noted. “That’s our mission – to protect the community of all threats.”
