Abortionist Opens Colorado Center That Will Kill Babies in Late-Term Abortions

The grandson of a notorious late-term abortionist just opened a new abortion facility in Pueblo, Colorado in defiance of strong opposition from local residents.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports Leroy “Lee” Carhart IV, the grandson of late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart Jr. who fought to overturn the national partial-birth abortion ban, runs the new Clinics for Abortions and Reproductive Excellence (CARE) facility in Pueblo.

Despite local efforts to stop it, the abortion facility opened Dec. 5 in the Bessemer neighborhood of the city. Currently, they only are doing drug-induced abortions up to 11 weeks for $700, but they plan to begin aborting unborn babies up to 24 weeks in the future, according to the report

Speaking with the newspaper, Lee Carhart slammed pro-life advocates for exposing their plans to open in Pueblo in October.

“Our clinic was in the renovation process when an anti-choice group put out an article regarding our clinic recruiting resistance of others,” he said. “We had not had the opportunity to reach out at the local level for support prior to these protesters and political turmoil and certainly did not have the intention of these events occurring with the city council.”

Local residents have organized protests and urged their city leaders to pass legislation to stop unborn babies from being aborted in their community. City Councilwoman Regina Maestri even introduced a ordinance to protect unborn babies in Pueblo, but the council tabled it earlier this month.

Here’s more from the report:

Public documents show that a CARE clinic in Colorado has been in the works for nearly six months. Carhart registered a limited liability company with the Colorado Secretary of State on June 28 and filed articles of incorporation for a Colorado nonprofit on July 13. …

Lee Carhart is the grandson of Dr. Leroy Carhart Jr., the owner and medical director of the Maryland and Nebraska locations of CARE clinics.

Carhart Jr. was licensed to practice medicine in Colorado on Oct. 19. Lee Carhart clarified that the elder Carhart is not medically involved at the Pueblo location.

It is not clear if the grandson also is an abortionist. Carhart Jr. is under investigation by Nebraska health officials after a 35-year-old patient accused him of nearly killing her in a botched abortion in February, according to Operation Rescue.

The pro-life watchdog group also recorded evidence of 27 life-threatening medical emergencies at his two abortion facilities since 2012, including one woman who died along with her baby after a late-term abortion in 2013.

During a 2019 interview with the BBC, Carhart Jr. shocked journalist Hilary Andersson when he candidly admitted that he kills babies, and he has no problem doing so – even after they are viable. Unlike many abortion activists, he used the word “baby,” too.

Many believe the Carharts are moving to Colorado because they likely will have to close the Nebraska abortion facility soon. The Nebraska city where Carhart Jr. practices also is considering a pro-life ordinance, and the state legislature may pass legislation to protect unborn babies this winter.

In Colorado, killing unborn babies in abortions is legal for basically any reason up to birth.
