Jim Copenhaver, one of two attendees shot during the 2024 assassination attempt on President Trump at Butler, Pennsylvania, has passed away.
He was stuck by two bullets. While he lived, he was left with bullet fragments in his body and nerve damage.
President Trump paid tribute to Copenhaver in a statement on Truth Social. “Jim Copenhaver, a true American Patriot, has passed away — A tremendous loss! More than two years ago in Butler, Pennsylvania, a crazed gunman attempted to stifle our America First Movement. Instead, Jim and so many other wonderful Patriots who love our Country, stood united in defense of our shared values of Freedom, Liberty, and Justice,” he wrote on Truth Social. “After being wounded while protecting his family, Jim showed tremendous bravery, courageously continuing to FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, and maintaining a positive spirit despite unimaginable hardships. His indelible legacy of love and devotion will forever endure. Our hearts and prayers are with the Copenhaver family, especially his incredible wife Marianne. God bless you all!”
House Republicans also honored Copenhaver. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Copenhaver, who was gravely wounded in the horrific shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the Republican account posted on X.
“Jim endured unimaginable hardship with strength and perseverance,” it continued. “We join his family and loved ones in mourning his loss and praying for them during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
According to the Allegheny County medical examiner, Copenhaver passed away at the Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Hospital, reports indicate. The family’s lawyer, Joseph Feldman, said he passed away surrounded by loved ones, but did not state if the death was directly linked to injuries sustained during the rally.
