The Department of Justice has filed a new document defending President Trump’s move to ban CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House.
According to the filing, access to the White House is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked. “At the very least, the Government may control reporters’ access to restricted presidential areas, such as the Oval Office, even for viewpoint-discriminatory reasons,” the Trump administration argues, and goes on to state that Trump’s action is not retaliatory as he has not “revoked access to other outlets that have equally criticized the President.”
President Trump expects the judge to rule against his administration and plans to appeal. “They have drawn a great Judge, for them, a man who ruled in favor of Jim Acosta, who now seems to have disappeared from the Planet. The Judge’s name is Tim Kelly, and he was, sadly, appointed by ‘TRUMP.’ In other words, almost without question and, as usual, we’ll go for appeal because Fake News people and publications that only write negatively, and who violate our National Security by writing false and defamatory stories with unknown ‘sources,’ shouldn’t be allowed access to the most important Office anywhere in the World,” he wrote on Truth Social on September 21.
The lawsuit, filed on September 21, says the “Constitution protects the liberty and property interests that news organizations and White House reporters have in their press credentials and the access those credentials afford them to cover the White House for the benefit of the public. No official can deprive Plaintiffs of those interests on a whim—with no notice, no process, and no warning—as the President did here.”
