The Board of Peace is reportedly planning to release a $2.45 billion recovery plan for Gaza, Axios reports.
According to the report, the 66-project proposal includes spending for housing, rubble removal, hospitals, economic recovery, and security. An official with the Board of Peace told the outlet, “The plan shows how to stand up a government from nothing, an economy from shambles and a territory from disaster.”
Infrastructure is expected to have as much as $1 billion allocated, which includes “$400 million for temporary shelters, $275 million for rubble and unexploded ordnance clearance, $50 million for hospital rehabilitation and $30 million to repair Gaza’s badly damaged road network,” Axios says. Another major area of the plan targets security measures and is expected to cost about $885 million.
The Director-General of the Peace Council, Nickolay Mladenov, said, as per The Jerusalem Post, that the team is “not working according to a timetable, first ensuring that every step we take will be good for Israel and the residents of Gaza. Please support this plan. We want to build something new in Gaza, something better, that will give peace a real chance to endure.”
World Leaders established the Board of Peace in January. “This board has the chance to be one of the most consequential bodies ever created, and it’s my enormous honor to serve as its chairman. I was very honored when they asked me to do it,” Trump said at the time, adding, “We had an idea to do it, and then they came, they said, ‘Would you be the chairman?’… I take it very seriously. We have a great group of people and incredible young people that are leading it from within.”
