Rand Paul Demands DOJ Charge Fauci

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) urged the Department of Justice to charge former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci for lying to Congress about gain-of-function research.

“The DOJ has ONE WEEK left to charge Anthony Fauci for the worst cover-up in modern medical history. He lied to Congress about funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan. Millions died. Trillions were spent. And Fauci walked away with book deals and fawning media coverage instead of handcuffs,” he wrote on X on May 4. “I re-upped my criminal referral to the DOJ because the evidence is overwhelming, and justice has been delayed long enough.”

In a separate post on May 5, Paul noted that the statute of limitations expires on May 11. “6 days from now, on May 11th, the statute of limitations expires on the possibility of indicting Anthony Fauci for denying under oath that he funded gain-of-function research involving bat coronaviruses in Wuhan, the origin city of the pandemic,” the post read.

Last year, Paul announced that he planned to reissue a criminal referral for Fauci to the DOJ. Paul previously issued a criminal referral for Fauci in 2023. “Dr. Fauci testified that ‘the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.’ In a subsequent hearing, I warned Dr. Fauci of the criminal implications of lying to Congress and offered him an opportunity to recant his previous statements,” he wrote in the letter to former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves.
