The House Republicans’ campaign arm launched digital ads Tuesday targeting 28 vulnerable Democrats for voting against the Trump tax cuts, timed to land the day before the 2026 tax filing deadline.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) accused the targeted members of “voting for the largest tax hike since World War II and making working families’ lives harder.” The ads are part of the GOP’s effort to hold its House majority in the upcoming midterms.
“This Tax Day, remember who made it worse,” the narrator in the ads says. “Republicans fought to protect your hard-earned paychecks. [These Democrats] sided with Bernie and AOC to vote against critical tax relief for you. Higher costs, less freedom, more pressure on you.”
The Republican domestic policy package, signed by President Trump last summer, extended his signature 2017 tax cuts and eliminated taxes on tips and overtime pay. It passed nearly entirely along party lines.
“Vulnerable Democrats made a choice: higher taxes, tighter budgets, and more pain for working families. Voters will make theirs,” said NRCC Spokesman Mike Marinella.
Democrats targeted in the ads include Reps. Adam Gray, Derek Tran, and Dave Min of California; Darren Soto and Jared Moskowitz of Florida; Frank Mrvan of Indiana; Kristen McDonald Rivet of Michigan; Don Davis of North Carolina; Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico; Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford of Nevada; and Tom Suozzi, Laura Gillen, and Josh Riley of New York, among others.
The DCCC pushed back, calling the legislation a “Republican Tax Scam.”
“No amount of political Tax Day spin will change the reality that hardworking families are getting more and more pissed at House Republicans for jacking up the price of gas, groceries, and healthcare while billionaires get to cash in on massive tax breaks,” DCCC spokesperson Viet Shelton told Fox News.
