President Donald Trump commended Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Friday for her hands-on leadership in securing the southern border, specifically praising her role in painting the border wall black to deter illegal crossings.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump explained that he had asked Noem to apply a black coat of paint to the steel wall, making it too hot to touch under the sun. “You could fry an egg on it,” Trump said, emphasizing that the paint would also preserve the steel and improve its appearance. He applauded Noem for executing the request promptly and effectively, noting, “She’s done such a good job on the border.”
Trump also recognized Tom Homan, former acting ICE Director, for working closely with Noem to enhance border security. Noem, in turn, confirmed Trump’s remarks, saying, “It is beautiful, and it’s hot.”
Noem shared a video on social media of herself painting the wall alongside Border Patrol agents. “Our borders and country will remain secure. To the men and women hard at work finishing the wall, you are saving American lives and protecting our way of life,” she wrote.
At a press event in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Noem stated, “A nation without borders is no nation at all.” She detailed how the wall’s design—including its height and underground foundation—makes illegal entry significantly more difficult. The addition of black paint serves a dual purpose: physical deterrent and structural protection.
Noem’s proactive approach has drawn strong support from conservatives who view the border wall as critical to national sovereignty and public safety. Her visible involvement signals a firm commitment to President Trump’s America First immigration agenda.
