House Republicans Demand Arrests Over Obama-Era Russia Hoax

House Republicans are calling for criminal charges against key Obama-era officials involved in the discredited Trump-Russia collusion narrative, arguing that new evidence shows deliberate efforts to undermine President Trump’s 2016 campaign. Lawmakers say recent revelations prove federal agencies knowingly spread false information to justify surveillance and politically motivated investigations.

Rep. Jim Jordan and other GOP leaders stated that the actions of top officials, including those in the FBI and DOJ, were “simply illegal” and violated constitutional protections. They argue the so-called “Russia hoax” was orchestrated to delegitimize President Trump before and after his election, pointing to declassified documents suggesting the Obama administration knew the Steele dossier was unreliable yet used it to secure FISA warrants.

The calls for accountability come after years of stalled investigations into the origins of the collusion narrative. While Special Counsel John Durham’s report previously highlighted FBI misconduct, House Republicans now insist stronger legal consequences are needed, including arrests and indictments for those who weaponized intelligence agencies for political purposes.

Democrats have dismissed the renewed push as political theater, claiming multiple investigations have already examined the matter. However, conservatives argue the lack of meaningful accountability shows a two-tiered justice system that protects powerful Democrats while targeting Republicans.

Republicans plan to issue subpoenas to former Obama administration officials and are pressing the DOJ to reopen criminal inquiries. Some lawmakers are also exploring legislation to prevent future abuse of intelligence powers in domestic politics.
